"Looking into Film" is an activity designed to provide cinematic screenings in educational, social, and cultural institutions, fostering discussions and reflections on films created by kids, youngsters and adults at the workshops of Anilupa.
Below, we present some initiatives carried out under the Audience Development Support Program in Schools of ICA – Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual / Ministry of Culture, with the guidance of Anilupa. We hope that these examples can serve as inspiration for the development of this activity by teachers, educators and other professionals working with groups.
Based on the analysis of the film "A Better World"
All the debates, reflections, and written and visual records about what the 4th grade (classroom A) students from Vilarinha Primary School felt and liked most about the film led to the creation of two panels: one addressing one of the themes of this cinematic work - Diversity - and the other containing written thoughts about what we can do to create a better world. The techniques employed aligned with one of the artistic techniques used in the film: painting on cardboard.
Based on the analysis of the film "Family Albums"
This film, watched, discussed, and reflected upon by the 4th grade (classroom B) students from Vilarinha Primary School, inspired a research project involving their families to collect real stories. This process culminated in the creation of a foldable book titled "A Book Dedicated to the Perpetual Adventures of Remembrance." It contains written thoughts and illustrations on the concept of imagery, employing mixed artistic techniques (drawing, painting, fabric and wool collage), and a box with photographs representing each collected story, accompanied by respective texts pasted behind the images.
Based on the analysis of the film "The Funny Painter"
The screening of this work aimed to raise awareness among 2nd-year students from Ponte Primary School about artistic practice. In the first phase, students created written and visual records about what they felt when watching the film. In the second phase, these visual records inspired a project involving the creation of random shapes drawn on cardboard and molded in plasticine. Once painted, all shapes were arranged on various cardboard backdrops, colored with paint and pieces of tissue paper in different hues. These compositions allowed for the creation of several abstract panels to be displayed at the school.
