Associação de Ludotecas do Porto (ALP) was founded in 1987 by Dr. Virgílio Moreira, a pediatrician, who promoted the creation of several play centers in the city of Porto. As a Private Social Solidarity Institution (IPSS), its mission is to contribute to the development of children, young people, and families in the defense and promotion of their rights, through a social, recreational, and community-oriented approach. In pursuit of its goals, the association operates in multiple areas, including its Community Center, while also offering consultancy and training in play related topics, as well as organizing recreational activities in the city’s public spaces.

Anilupa emerged as a unit within ALP in 1990, starting with the workshops of animation for non-professional public and expanding the activities later on, when the Animation center was established.
